It is named after its administrative centre - the town of Dve Mogili. The municipality embraces a territory of 345 km² with a population of 10,341 inhabitants, as of December 2009.〔 (Bulgarian National Statistical Institute - Bulgarian provinces and municipalities in 2009 )〕 The area is best known with Orlova Chuka cave. Accidentally discovered in 1941, with its 13,437 m, it is the second-longest in the country.
